EXL Senior Consultant Interview Questions
Interview at EXL
I was interviewed at EXL services for the Gurgaon location, the overall process was very smooth.
There were 3 rounds,
Round 1 – Technical where questions from SQL and Python were asked,
Round 2 – Case Study as well as a project discussion in detail.
Round 3 – Project discussion, experience in project development, documentation and leadership qualities
Round 1 – Technical Round
Since the designation was Senior Consultant, the SQL questions were not that hard, it was mostly moderate-level problems spread across ranking, window function, group by, and the explosion of data(unnesting).
Some of the questions that were asked are given below:-
– What is the difference between where and having?
– When will you use row_number(), rank(), and dense_rank() ?
– What are Presto and hive?
– Define the big data infrastructure of your organization.
– What is unnesting?
– How to convert from one data type to another?
– Define the complete software development life cycle.
You can find the answer to all these questions in our e-books (mentioned below). There was a brief discussion on the roles and responsibilities shared in the current organization.
Round 2 – Case Study and Project Discussion
The second round was mostly around Project discussion, I was asked to elaborate on any of the projects done in the current organization and one in the previous organization.
My project was on Time Series Forecasting and NLP, so questions were asked on statistics as well as R (language used in the project).
The following are the questions asked in the interview:-
– Define ARIMA
– How do you check the value of p,d,q in ARIMA model?
– Why did you choose ARIMA?
– What is Linear Regression? Why did you not try it in your project?
– What is the p-value?
– What is correlation?
– What is multicollinearity?
NLP questions
NLP questions were mostly around word correlation and cleaning of data in R.
– What is tf-idf?
– Why do we need to use idf?
– What is bi-gram?
– What is word correlation? How did it help in your project?
– What challenges did you face in cleaning the data?
Most of the questions were descriptive in nature and you would get a good amount of time to answer these. Make sure to keep sharing your thoughts and logic in the way of answering the question
Round 3 – Project Discussion and Leadership values
This round was taken by the AVP of EXL and it was mostly around your leadership values, how you deal with project management, how you interact with your juniors, and your experience with creating RFP(Request for proposal), and documentation.
In my previous experience, I had a good amount of experience on working on RFPs and creating documentation, taking learning hours, etc. So, this was an easy round. I was again asked to elucidate a project in brief.
Result – The selection was confirmed in a couple of days, the complete recruitment process took somewhere around 7 working days.
