  1. Maximum likelihood estimation is a method that determines values for the parameters of a model. The parameter values are found such that they maximise the likelihood that the process described by the model produced the data that were actually observed.

    The non-existence of the MLE may occur for all values or for only some of them. In general, this is due either to the fact that
    the parameter space is not compact or that the log-likelihood is discontinuous
